Fruit Tree Facts

Did you know that Apricot trees are very resistant to cold weather in winter, but harsh spring frosts will cause the blooming to freeze resulting in a fruitless year. Rootstocks grafted on apricot trees are normally of peach or plum. It is normal for apricot trees to grow wide branching covered by heart shaped leaves.

Greengage plum trees grow up to 9 feet and are self-fertile. It is very common to notice them crossing with other plum trees in the plantation area done by honey bees. The Greengage fruit is normally hard and juicy at the same time varying in taste from very sour to honey sweet. Depending on the root stock of a greengage tree, blooming starts as early as a year or as late as 5 years. Full sun is the key to a healthy and fruitfull Greengage tree.

Orange trees are considered to be Citrus trees; they are evergreen, and grow as high as 32 feet tall. Warmer climate yields in a higher quality of oranges if the trees are irrigated weekly during summer and fertilized monthly in spring and summer. As with most other trees, blossoms are fragile during spring frosts, so if you have heavy frosting in your region, protect your Orange trees!

Peach trees of Prunoideae family of fruit trees grow up to 30 feet tall and have narrow long leaves. They bloom in the early spring and thus, frost is also problematic for peach buds. Peach trees need hot summer, some winter cold and a mild spring to yield high quality crop. With so many requirements, good regions to plant peach trees are hard to find. They also have specific nutritious and frequent irrigation needs.

Pomegranate trees are relatively small growing up to about 25 feet with narrow and small leaves. Red blossoms make the tree beautiful and easy to recognize in spring. Little irrigation, proper fertilization, and lots of heat and sun shine are the key factors to growing a healthy and fruitfull pomegranate tree. Pruning is also important to keep your pomegranate tree in good shape.
